Who We Are
Black Birch stems from the simple love of fishing. The feeling of being on the water, one with nature, working a lure for sustenence and sport alike. It was born on some lake in Saskatchewan, where I found myself looking for a rod that suited every need and want I was looking for. The options at a local outdoors store underwhelmed me, so to a builder I went.
It did not take long and I had started building my own rods. As a guide, I had very strict needs for the fishing I was doing. I also wanted a rod that would be beautiful, something that I could talk about. My guests loved the rods I had, and it lit a fire to start a company only two years later. After rigerous testing, we had 5 series of rods, and in development of fly-fishing and ice fishing models.
What we do?
At Black Birch, we build high quality, high performing fishing rods that are more accessible than what you can buy in stores. Each rod is hand built, spine tested, and intensely tested before heading out of our doors. We only source the highest quality of materials to build, and we want to be your number one rod in your arsenal.
The Owner
My name is Brett Reddekopp and I am the founder and owner of Black Birch Custom Fishing Rods. This is a project that has taken almost 2 years of planning and loads of research and development. I have built a bunch of fishing rods that were a product of not having the answer to my fishing needs. I will get a good power, or length, and not have a proper grip or material. None of the guides on factory built rods impressed me, so I refuse to compromise on the utilization of high quality, unmatched guides and handles on my rods.
I have always had an affinity to fishing. I spent night after night during school or after work on the water, learning my rod, my lures, and most importantly the fish. I found myself in a guiding position, teaching the knowledge I worked so many years to aquire, and furthering my rods development in a trophy Northern Pike, Lake Trout, and Walleye environment. I got loads of constructive criticism from my clients, as well as fellow guides.
This passion has now translated into a business where I get to create and help the type of person I once was. Black Birch stems from the love of fishing, and raising the standards to fishing equipment to that of the user, not the other way around. I would love to work with anyone on their vision for their perfect rod, the conversation piece during a slow day, and an unmatched tool when the fish are on.
